Thanks to Historical Pelican we found the culprit that was causing this: the font used inside of Novelcrafter had a couple settings enabled that were incompatible with the Mac OSX fallback for Chinese. We have removed the setting and also updated the fonts in general.
Since this is a visual issue, the underlying text did not seem to have changed and should still be the desired characters.

My MAC does the same thing.

I am curious: which keyboards do you have active on Mac? Cause I see a couple available for Simplified Chinese, and I am wondering if it is only happening with a certain layout.

Hi there, we're currently investigating this, but can't replicate it.
So far we know this is only happening on Mac OSX machines (on Windows it works fine), even though on my personal MacBook this isn't happening.
