When nested bullets are present, attempting to delete the parent bullet results in deleting the preceding text that is not bulleted

Steps to reproduce:
write some text
move to a new line and write some more text, select it and make it a bullet using the 'toggle bullet list' button
hit enter to make a second bullet with some text
use Tab key to indent the second bullet as a nested child of the first
return cursor to beginning of first bullet (before the first text character)
hit delete key -- nothing is deleted
hit delete key again -- the paragraph before the first bullet is deleted, but the bullet itself is not deleted
